Pappu Yadav (born 28 January 1967) is an Indian politician and former Member of Parliament from Bihar. His full name is Rajesh Ranjan Yadav. He was born in Harbharpur village in Madhepura district of Bihar to a family of farmers. He became involved in students’ union politics during his college days and gained prominence as a youth leader in the Jayaprakash Narayan student movement in the 1970s.
He joined mainstream politics and was elected as a Member of Parliament from Madhepura in 1991 on a Janata Dal ticket at the age of 24, becoming one of the youngest MPs. He later fell out with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD party over differences and formed his own party called Jan Adhikar Party in 2015.
He has had several criminal cases filed against him, including charges of kidnapping, extortion and murder. He was jailed for over a decade before being released on bail. Despite the criminal charges, he enjoys significant support among sections of the youth and backward castes in parts of Bihar. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he contested from Madhepura but lost to the RJD candidate.
